Mountain Bike and Fun Bike Hire from the Park

Book our mountain bikes and go explore the forest and tracks. We have bikes in 3 sizes to suit the whole family for half-day and whole day hires, helmets are provided for everyone.

Find out about the easy rider and intermediate loops which start from Hanmer Forest Entrance, these rides vary in distance between 5 km to 6.5 km. There are also advanced and expert tracks for the more experienced and adventurous riders.

We also have Fun Bikes for the kids to use around the Park, they are single, double and quad, you can hire them by the hour. Keep the kids busy so you can relax.

Grab a mountain bike and head for the hills! Explore the New Zealand High Country or the Hanmer Forest Park up close on one of our mountain bike hire options. Hanmer Springs is a great place for mountain biking, with excellent tracks available for all levels of expertise and fitness.

A brochure for track information can be purchased from reception or ask our friendly staff at reception for information and advice.

St James Cycle Trail

The St James Cycle Trail was the first of the great rides to open in 2010. It passes through the iconic St James Station,  close to Hanmer Springs. This 64 km trail offers a mix of riding grades through stunning and diverse scenery including soaring mountain peaks, crystal clear rivers, high-country lakes, alpine meadows, sub-alpine beech forest and expansive grassy river flats.

​Easy Rider (Beginner)

This is a  classic easy loop track which is a non-technical track of approximately 4km, there are many tracks within the Heritage block which can be linked in to this.

Flax Gulley/Swoop/Majuba (Intermediate)

These 3 tracks may be linked and will take you around the back of Conical Hill.

Yankee Zephyr and Red Rock (Expert)

A challenging route on swooping switchbacks and rocky terrain - perfect for experts. Fantastic views of the Hurunui area if you dare take your eyes off the track.

​Jacks Jollies Loop

This 25km ride starts in the Hanmer Springs Village, circles Mt Isobel, passes through 800 metre high Jacks Pass following the Clarence River before entering Jollies Pass and returning to Hanmer Springs Village. This ride takes between 2-4 hours. 

Hanmer Springs Mountain Bike Events

There are a number of events throughout the year for those looking for a challenge. There is the annual Hammerhead ride, Mt Isobel Challenge, the Krank Duathlon (4 and 8 Hour event), Mountain Bike Orienteering, the Rainbow Rage and the Molesworth Muster.
